What is an IP address
An IP address is an identifier assigned to every device that connects to the internet. It is used to identify that device across the entire network.
Put simply, an IP address is to a computer what a registration plate is to a car.
In more technical terms
IP version 4 addresses are 32-bit integers. They are written as four octets in decimal form, each
separated by a dot, for example 73.23.19.93.
Classes of IP addresses
